Day 2: Shillong / Mawphlang / Mawsynram

- In the morning drive to Mawphlang for an enticing forest walk in the sacred groves. The Khasi of Meghalaya at one time were animists who believed in the spirits of the forest. - The forests of Mawphlang are one of the last surviving sacred groves in Meghalaya.
- Continue on to Mawsynram, currently the wettest place on Earth . In May this road will be lush green with spectacular vistas greeting you at every bend. When the clouds lift up their curtain you will get to see the most stunning views of the Meghalaya plateau from here.

Day 6: Mawlynnong to Cherrapunji
80 kms / 2.5 hrs

- After breakfast, drive to Cherrapunji, one of the wettest places on Earth . In May the entire region will be dotted with waterfalls. Your first stop will be at Nohkalikai falls, ranked high in the 100 best waterfalls in the world . This falls also has the highest plunge factor in India.
- Later we visit Seven sister falls and Wha Kabha falls.
- Your last stop would be at Mawsmai caves where you can see many unique limestone formations called stalactites and stalagmites.

O/n at La Kupar inn / Cherrapunji

Day 7: Cherrapunji

- Walk down to the Double Decker Root Bridge that has two levels. They are very strong, can carry many people at a time and perhaps can last 500 years. The trek passes through some verdant slopes, criss-crossed by streams. At some places the stream has made some natural ponds, containing emerald blue water where you can take a dip. The trek is moderately difficult since one needs to descend 2500 feet into the valley and then climb up the same altitude again. It will take approximately 4-5 hours for the up and down trip.

Day 8: Goodbye!

- After breakfast, drive down to Guwahati airport. Opt for a late evening flight as the drive from Cherrapunji to Guwahati (170 km / 5 hrs) is long and prone to traffic jams.

Location details

Meghalaya, meaning "Abode of Clouds," is a stunning state in northeastern India, known for its dramatic and varied topography. It lies on the Shillong Plateau and is flanked by Assam to the north and Bangladesh to the south. The landscape is a breathtaking mix of rolling hills, deep gorges, dense subtropical forests, and ancient limestone caves. The state is divided into three main hill regions—the Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo Hills—each with distinct cultural and geographic features. Sparkling rivers, hidden waterfalls, and living root bridges formed by nature and nurtured by local communities add to its rich ecological and geographical character.

Meghalaya experiences a subtropical highland climate, with heavy rainfall during the monsoon season, especially in Cherrapunji and Mawsynram—two of the wettest places on Earth. Summers are mild, while winters are cool and d ry. The persistent mist and moisture create a lush, green environment that defines Meghalaya’s unique monsoon charm.
